Alcohol is always bad for health
1 of 5
When a moderate amount of good alcohol (not spurious types or of poor quality) are consumed, then there are multiple benefits that a person derives. What are some of the health benefits of alcohol (in moderation, of course)?
2 of 5
Contrary to popular belief, alcohol does have some health benefits, the key word, of course, is moderation. When consumed in moderation, it does protect against heart disease. It reduces the amount of bad cholesterol which is responsible for heart disease. The overall inflammation rate in the body is also reduced, leading to reduced chances of dementia and diabetes. Alcohol can definitely do some good, but the key word is MODERATION, not more than 2 drinks per week.
Alcohol leads to weight gain
3 of 5
Alcohol per se does not lead to weight gain, the accompanying snacks and soft drinks are what lead to weight gain. A glass of wine over a meal will definitely do no harm, as compared to a glass of whiskey which is consumed along with fried foods. Always use discretion when you are on a weight watch to make sure alcohol does not harm the weight loss program.

Alcohol has major cardioprotective effects. Red wine, in particular, is shown to be highly beneficial. It works in multiple ways - from increasing the amount of good cholesterol to reducing plaque formation which is responsible for heart attacks and stroke. Regular use of alcohol will lead to addiction
5 of 5
This completely is dependent on the person in question. Regular consumption in moderate amount does not amount to addiction. It, however, should definitely not be a reason to use alcohol for its health benefits. While it is good to regularly consume alcohol, do not overuse it or make it a habit. It is perfectly okay to not have a drink for a week, there is nothing lost.
