Plantar fasciitis or heel spur syndrome is a condition that causes severe pain under the heel bone.
1 of 5
Pain in the arch or pain in the heel often intimates infection or inflammation of the long-drawn tissue bands under the foot. It can cause intense discomfort and pain in either the mid-arch region or at the inside heel, and sometimes in the outside heel. It often produces pain while coming out from a resting position particularly when one wakes up in the morning. Kneel on the mesh with toes tucked under you and try to stretch the bottom of the heel.
What is one of the most common causes of feet pain when you wake up in the morning?
2 of 5
Plantar fasciitis is one of the most prevalent causes of foot pain in adults. It is prompted by a pressure of the ligaments in the region of the foot called the plantar fascia. This is a heavy, silver-white tissue with long fibers that arise at the heel bone and then moves out along the supporting surface of your feet to the toes. The ligament gives support as the toes bear the body weight during walking every time the heel rises. Sit up in bed, legs stretched in front. Loop rolled-up towel (or exercise band if you have one handy) beneath the ball of every foot to relieve the pain.

4 of 5
Pain in the foot and ankle is mostly associated with degenerative changes like heel pain, hammer toes, corns, and bunions. Similarly, rheumatologic conditions or internal inflammation due to some nerve injury or tendon fracture can also result in such pain. Tarsal Tunnel Syndrome can be another cause of your feet to pain when you wake up in the morning. If you experience such pain, it is advisable to consult an orthopedic doctor to identify the underlying condition and treat accordingly.
Having flat feet or fallen arches can cause feet pain.
5 of 5
Flat feet are one of the risk factors of the plantar fascia. Having flat feet or fallen arches can produce compression on the tibial nerve. People with fallen arches may roll over their feet to the inner side while standing or walking. Known as over-pronation, this can cause plantar fascia to be inflamed thus resulting in heel and foot pain. Such pain can be highly pronounced in the mornings when you get out of bed. Soaking your feet in warm water with Epsom salt can soothe your feet, giving you instant relief from foot pain.
