Liposuction can remove cellulite to a certain extent, it can also be used to remove excess fat from the body. Liposuction refers to a cosmetic procedure that helps improve a patient s body contours by removing stubborn bulges. It can be used to address stubborn fat in the abdomen, back, arms, thighs, breasts, buttocks and neck. Liposuction may be performed under local or general anesthesia. During a single procedure, multiple areas can be addressed or fat can be removed from a single large area.

To undergo liposuction, a person must have overall good health and firm, elastic skin. They must have a healthy BMI. Liposuction is most useful for pockets of fat that have not responded well to diet and exercises. Age is not usually a very important factor, but elderly patients may have less elastic skin. Most importantly, a patient should have realistic expectations when undergoing liposuction.
Liposuction can be performed as an outpatient procedure

Hospitalization is not always required for liposuction. For small pockets of fat, this procedure may be performed as an outpatient procedure with local anesthesia, but for large pockets of fat it can be done under genera anesthesia. They can be discharged evening. Also, the total duration of the surgery will depend on areas that being addressed. Be sure to follow your doctor s advice.

Recovery after outpatient liposuction is relatively quick and it depends on the area where liposuction is done. You should be able to start working again within a few days, but you may have to wait for up to 1 week to get back to your normal routine. Following the procedure, you may experience slight bruising, soreness and swelling. This depends on the area being treated and the amount of fat being removed, but will resolve itself within a few weeks. The results of this surgery are permanent and if you do put on weight, it will not necessarily be in the same areas.

The patients may be required to wear compression garments over the treated area after this procedure. This helps compress the skin to follow the new body contours and helps control swelling. Medication may also be prescribed to aid the healing and reduce chances of infections.
