Viruses can cause cancer.
1 of 5
There are two ways by which virus can cause cancer: one is the direct way and another is the indirect way. In direct way, the virus enters the body and inserts its genetic material into the cell's DNA thus transforming a cell into a cancerous one. In indirect way, the virus causes tissue damage and that triggers healing. Healing involves actively dividing cells and these have a high risk of mutation. However not all cancers are caused by viruses. Only 20% of cases can be linked to causation by viruses mainly Hepatitis B and HPV.
Sharing with a cancer patient can cause cancer.
2 of 5
Absolutely incorrect. Cancer is not a contagious disease that spreads from person to person. The only situation where a contamination can happen is in case of a tissue or an organ transplant. If a person receives an organ or a tissue from a donor who has had cancer in the past then there are chances of that person developing transplant-related cancer in the future. But the probability of that happening is very low. Some cancers are caused by viruses. These viruses can spread from person to person but not cancer caused by them.
