A bland soothing cream, ointment, or suppository may ease discomfort. However, they don t cure piles. Several brands are available without a prescription. Steroid-based creams may reduce the inflammation and the swelling around hemorrhoid, thus easing itch and pain. Creams that contain an anesthetic may relieve pain better but must be used for a short period. If used longer the anesthetic may irritate or sensitive the skin around the anal area. Constipation worsens the symptoms due to the formation of hard stools. It is advised to take plenty of fiber-based fruits and vegetables and drinking at least 2 liters of water is also beneficial. One may take fiber supplements if high fiber diet is not helping. And go to the toilet as soon as feeling the need. Suppressing the feeling may result in hardened stools which would worsen the condition. You should also avoid spending long hours in the toilet.
