Blurry Vision - What Causes It?

Refractive error can lead to myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (far-sightedness), and astigmatism. In myopia, the light entering the eyes is unable to focus on the retina and falls in front. This is caused by lengthening of the eyeballs. In hyperopia, the light focuses behind the retina. This happens when the eyeballs become short. In astigmatism, the cornea becomes distorted.

An individual experiences blurred vision when he or she cannot see far or near objects clearly while others can. Apart from vision issues, they may also experience squinting, which puts pressure on the eyes, thus, making them close and rendering them incapable of focusing on an object. Pressure on the eyes is a direct result of squinting.

Retina is a part of the eye that senses light. High sugar levels in diabetic patients ruptures the blood vessels of the retina, causing it to swell. It interferes with vision and makes it blurred.

LASIK surgery restores the vision in case of myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism but only those who have good corneal health are advised to undergo it. Those with diabetes and other eye disorders are considered unfit for LASIK.
