How does this medication work?
Panderm Cream is a combination of corticosteroids, antifungal, and antibiotics, thus works via multiple mechanisms. Firstly, it works as an anti-inflammatory by inhibiting the metabolism of arachidonic acid by inhibiting phospholipase A2 thus inhibits the production of inflammatory mediators like prostaglandins and leukotrienes. Secondly, it decreases ergosterol production by disrupting the activity of cytochrome P450, inhibiting the formation of the cell membrane of susceptible fungi like Candida and Micosporum. Thirdly, it kills them by seeping into their cells through diffusion and damaging DNA and other critical biomolecules through the formation of reactive nitro radicals. Lastly, works as a bactericidal by inhibiting the bacterial DNA gyrase enzyme, which is essential for DNA replication, transcription, repair, and recombination. This leads to expansion and destabilization of the bacterial DNA and causes cell death.
