11 Herbs and Plants That Can Lower Blood Pressure

A person becomes really anxious and worried about the treatment and medications when his health provider tells him that he has a condition of high blood pressure. To control this condition of high blood pressure there are various medicines available in this modern age and these medications (allopathic medicine) are known to have an immediate effect on it. But there is a population of people who are still choosing herbal medications over other kinds of medicines just because of their effectiveness.

People in different regions of the world are using herbal medications and the consumption and demand of these herbal medicines have increased a lot over the years just because of their multiple benefits. People in the modern and developing world are choosing herbal medications as the primary source of treatment for their medical condition and they choose herbal medicines as they have very less side effects and the human body is known to accept these medicines really well. There are herbal medications available for medical conditions like stress management, supplements and lowering down the high blood pressure through a healthy diet and exercise.

Although there are certain allopathic medicines available like the beta blockers which can be taken to bring down the high blood pressure along with certain lifestyle changes and dietary changes, there are certain herbs found which are known to control the medical condition of high blood pressure. Some of those herbs are mentioned below:

  1. Garlic (allium sativum): This is a known fact that garlic as a herb has so many medicinal benefits. This medicinal herb has certain compounds which are very helpful in keeping a healthy heart. One of the most important compounds which is present in abundance in garlic is said to be alicin, this compound gives garlic its usual odor and other medicinal advantages which helps in the relaxation of the blood vessels thus, lowering down or controlling the blood pressure.
  2. Basil (Ocimum basilium): This is also considered as a very healthy option just because of the compounds found in it. A plant antioxidant which goes by the name eugenol is found in abundance in these plants which has a property of blocking the natural calcium channel and this lowers down the level of high blood pressure.
  3. Cinnamon (Cinnamomum Genus): This flavored spice is known to be obtained from the cinnamon tree's bark. This flavored spice has a very impressive property of relaxing and dilating of the blood vessels and just because of this property cinnamon has been very beneficial for heart related issues and reduction in the levels of blood pressure, since a long period of time.
  4. Celery (Apium graveolens): A kind of hypertension which is associated with the malfunction of the liver and in this kind of hypertension condition celery is consumed as it has antihypertensive properties against this specific condition. The seed extract of celery has a property of blocking the natural calcium channel and lowering down the blood pressure level. Celery seeds have fiber present in it which also have the same effect and other than this celery has other health benefits too like fresh juice of celery along with vinegar is helpful in relieving dizziness and shoulder pain.
  5. Ajwain (Cassia absus): This is an Indian spice which is found easily all over the country and this Indian spice is also known as thyme. This spice is very helpful in reducing blood sugar levels and blood pressure, increasing blood flow and reducing inflammation as well and all these medical benefits are only possible because of a compound which is found in this flavor spice and this compound is named as rosmarinic acid. An intravenous injection of this spice's crude extract has a very positive effect on the reduction of heart diseases and lowering of blood pressure as well.
  6. Flaxseeds (Linum usitatissimum): Flaxseed and the oil extracted from this is very healthy and it's consumption has so many medical benefits like it is helpful in treatment of heart disease, arthritis, inflamed bowel problems and other problems because it has omega-3 fatty acid and linolenic acid present in it. The omega-3 fatty acid is known to control or lower down the high blood pressure level.
  7. Green oat (Avena sativa): This has an antihypertensive property which is helpful in the improvement of blood pressure control and this product has a lot of dietary fibers present in it. If you take this you will no longer be required to take any other kind of antihypertensive medications.
  8. Ginger (Zingiber officinale): This particular spice has a lot of medical benefits such as heart health getting improved due to blood flow and circulation improvement, improvement in blood pressure level and cholesterol levels as well. You can consume ginger by including them in your everyday meal and beverages and it will be very beneficial for your health as it has a natural calcium channel blocking property.
  9. Parsley (Petroselinum crispum): This is a very commonly used herb in any kind of cuisine like the Middle Eastern, American or European. This has a lot of compounds present in it like the carotenoids and vitamin C which is helpful in the reduction of high blood pressure.
  10. Brahmi (Bacopa monnieri/ Water hyssop): This is a herb which is found to be very helpful and effective for mental health but there is no data or proof available for its effectiveness in the treatment of high blood pressure. There are so many people who are consuming this product for the treatment of blood pressure.
  11. Cardamom (Elettaria cardamomum): This is a very flavourful spice (sweet in taste) and has a lot of antioxidants which is very helpful in the improvement of high blood pressure as this has a property of blocking the natural calcium channel.

This medical condition of high blood pressure or hypertension and at least one member of the family suffers from this condition and the management of this medical condition is possible through various lifestyle and dietary changes, exercises and stress management. These herbs and spices mentioned are very effective in treating the condition of high blood pressure.
