As we all know, summer is the longest of all the four seasons. The tropical countries experience the highest temperatures in the summer. It occurs between the spring and the autumn or the rainy season.
Most of the people dislike this season because of the scorching heat and a number of diseases it brings with itself. The scorching heat causes heat strokes, dehydration, sunburn, hyperpigmentation and diseases like chickenpox, measles, mumps, typhoid, food poisoning, etc are very common in this season.
So, today we are going to share some tips to deal with the summer –
1– Stay cool in Summers with natural coolants. You can observe changes in the fruits and vegetables which are produced in the winter and summer seasons. The fruits and vegetables available in the summer season have high water content. In summers, we are very prone to dehydration and our body needs a lot of water to stay hydrated. So, the good drinks which are recommended in the Summers are – lemon water, which is an excellent natural coolant for the body. It also increases the immunity of the body and helps us in fighting various diseases, aam panna, ginger ale, chhach, etc are also excellent coolants and are all easily available.
2– Consume fruits which have high water content such as watermelon, strawberries, peaches, etc.
3– Oranges could be a good option in the summers as they have high vitamin C content and water content as well.
4– Coconut water is also very beneficial in summers as it contains electrolytes and hydrates your body. It has several other benefits too as it provides several nutrients to the body and is very good for the health of your heart. It is also helpful in maintaining good skin texture, keeps the bones healthy and maintains cholesterol level.
5– How to avoid heat strokes? Heat strokes are generally caused when a large amount of heat is produced inside our body. So, when we go out, high temperature outside aggravates the heat inside the body resulting in heat strokes. Hence, the basic things one should remember is that the foods which we consume should produce less heat in the body.
How can we do that? That is very simple. If we have a simple diet which is not high in protein will help to keep the body temperatures normal. We all know that foods rich in protein consume a lot of energy for digestion and as a result they also produce a lot of energy resulting in the production of a lot of heat in the body.
So, it is advised to avoid foods which have High Protein content such as non-veg, nuts, etc. Eat foods which are easy to digest, and include more and more salad in your diet such as cucumber, onions, carrots, etc. You should also have bananas as they are rich in potassium.
6– Limit or completely avoid the consumption of products which contain caffeine such as tea or coffee as they are acidic and irritate the gastrointestinal tract and they are also diuretic and their overconsumption can lead to frequent urination, which can further lead to dehydration.
7– Avoid Alcoholic beverages as they dehydrate the body. Hence heat combined with dehydration can lead to serious problems in summers such as heat strokes.
8– Wear light clothes, preferably cotton. Avoid wearing polyester clothes as they produce heat and are not comfortable. Cotton clothes absorb the sweat whereas polyester does not.
9– Wear clothes which are loose and comfortable as tight clothes do not let the body sweat properly.
10– Wear clothes which are light in colour as dark coloured clothes attract heat.
11– While working out, take fluids at short intervals to keep your body hydrated and avoid heavy workout as it can leave the body exhausted and dehydrated.
12– Keep good hygiene and wash your hands regularly before touching any food item to avoid infections.
13– Avoid street food as much as you can because they are unhygienic and the main cause of several diseases.
14– This is the season when the mosquitoes are most active. They bring along with them diseases such as dengue, malaria, chikungunya, etc. So, keep your surroundings clean. Don't let water accumulate in coolers, flower pots, etc as they are the breeding places of the mosquitoes. Use mosquito nets at night. Also, apply mosquito repellent creams while sleeping in the night in case you are not using mosquito nets.
15– Your eyes also need care in the summers as the ultraviolet rays of the sun can harm the eyes while you are travelling outdoors. So, always wear sunglasses for protection of your eyes from the sun.
16– You can wear hats or protective covering on your face to avoid sunburns as the harmful ultraviolet rays of the sun can damage the sensitive areas of your face.
17– Dermatologists recommend wearing sunscreen while going outdoors as they protect your skin from the harmful rays of the sun. You should use sunscreen with good SPF. SPF means the Sun Protection Factor of the sunscreen. Any sunscreen with SPF 20 or above is considered good.
18– Avoid going outside in the afternoon particularly between the time of 12 PM to 3 PM as the sun is vertically overhead and causes maximum damage.
19– Always cleanse your face after coming from outside to remove excess oil and dirt.
20– Moisturising is very important after cleansing otherwise the skin could get dry.
21– Avoid heavy makeup as it can lead to clogging of pores and try using light makeup with SPF. It will also protect your skin along with good looks.
22– You can use Vitamin C masks once or twice a week as they are good for your face leaving your face fresh and gentle.
23– Aloevera gel can be a good option in the summers as it soothes the skin.
24– Use antibacterial powders on infections caused due to the sweat and germs.
25– You can plan trips in this season to cool places which can be the best method to run from the scorching heat and this will help you to spend some time with your loved ones too.
