Acharya Balkrishna Hospitalized Due To Chest Pain - Know More About The Condition!

Yoga guru and entrepreneur Ramdev’s close aide Acharya Balkrishna complained of chest pain and was admitted to AIIMS on Friday. He was initially admitted in a hospital in Haridwar from where he was referred to AIIMS, Rishikesh. 

What is chest pain?

One of the most common reasons why people get admitted to the emergency ward is chest pain. Also, chest pain can also vary from person to person in terms of intensity, location and duration. 

Some might experience sharp pain while others might feel a dull ache.

Causes of chest pain -

Because heart attacks become very common, your first thought when you have chest pain could be that it’s a heart attack. This is because chest pain has been established as a symptom of a heart attack. But it could also be due to less serious problems.

Let’s look at the various causes of chest pain –

  1. The first and most common cause of chest pain is heart-related problems. Conditions like a heart attack, angina (blood vessel blockage in the heart) or myocarditis (heart muscle inflammation) can cause chest pain.

  2. The next cause is gastrointestinal. The causes are heartburn, gallstones, gallbladder inflammation, and swallowing problems.

  3. Even lung-related problems can cause chest pain. Problems such as pneumonia, bronchitis, blood clots in the lungs and pneumothorax have symptoms which include chest pain.

  4. You can also have chest pain from musculoskeletal conditions such as broken ribs and compression fractures.

Symptoms of chest pain -

The symptoms of chest pain vary according to the cause.

Heart-related symptoms –

Chest pain due to heart-related problems can cause tightness in the chest, fatigue, dizziness, lightheadedness, breathing difficulties and nausea.

If your chest pain isn’t related to the heart then you will notice symptoms like –

  • A sour taste in the mouth

  • It will be difficult for you to swallow food

  • Pain after you eat

  • Cough resulting in pain

  • Fever

  • A rash accompanies chest pain

Moreover, you might also experience symptoms like a runny nose, cough, anxiety and back pain radiating to the chest.

Precautions for chest pain -

Because the causes of chest pain are varied, you need to keep your entire body healthy. Follow a healthy diet and an exercise regimen to keep your weight under control and your heart healthy.

Also if you smoke or drink alcohol, then try to get rid of the habit. You need to stay away from processed and junk food to keep your weight in check. Just stick to home-cooked meals. Remember to plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables for a healthy supply of antioxidants as they keep your body healthy.
