Are you feeling some kind of pressure or a squeezing sensation in your chest region? It could be because of angina. Angina is described as discomfort or tightness in the chest which happens when your heart muscle does not get ample amount of oxygen-rich blood.

Causes of angina -

Plaque, a fatty substance builds up in the arteries of your heart, which obstructs the blood flowing to your heart muscle. So, a major cause of angina is heart disease. There are a few other common causes of this condition, such as:

  • Narrowing of a valve in the main part of the heart

  • A blockage in a major artery of the lungs

  • Tearing in the wall of the aorta

  • An enlarged or thickened heart

  • Swelling of the sac around the heart

Angina doesn’t exist only in one form, it has been divided into three types. Following are the different types of angina:

1. Stable angina: This is the most common form of angina. It can be triggered by stress or physical activity and usually only lasts for a few minutes.

2. Unstable angina: This takes place when you are resting or are not very active. The pain is strong and long lasting, and may keep recurring. It may be a signal of an impending heart attack.

3. Variant angina: It may happen when you are asleep or at rest. This sudden tightening or narrowing of the heart's arteries causes a lot of pain.

You must also know the symptoms of angina, so that you can immediate action as soon as you notice them.
