Sex is one of the most beautiful moments for couples. However, couples tend to get involved in unprotected sex more often than not. Practicing protected sex is always a good idea to avoid unwanted or unintentional pregnancy as well as sexually transmitted diseases. For this, couples can opt for contraceptive methods. 

One of the most common contraception used by couples is condoms. However, there are many other types of contraceptive methods that can be used by couples. 

In this article, a newly married couple can get to know about different kinds of contraceptive methods that can be used to avoid unintentional pregnancy or STIs or STDs. 

Contraceptive Methods for Newly Married Couple

The type of contraceptive used widely depends upon the preference of the couple. These preferences are based on pregnancy planning, sexual desire, convenience, etc. Contraceptive methods can broadly be categorized into two types:

  • Long-term Contraceptive Methods: It includes methods that last weeks, months, or years.

  • Short-term Contraceptive Methods: It includes methods that last for a few days or a week.

1. Condoms -

The safest and effective way to protect your sexual life from unintentional complications is to use condoms. Using condoms every single time while being intimate with your partner can prevent unwanted pregnancy or STD.

2. Oral contraceptive pills -

These are hormonal birth control pills, with some amount of estrogen and progestin to preserve the pregnancy. Low dose oral contraceptive pills are low on hormone contraception. They have less amount of estrogen & progestin as compared to traditional pills. It is advised by doctors to newly married women.

3. I-pills / Emergency Contraceptive -

Contraceptive pills are the most effective and non-surgical way to prevent unplanned pregnancy. The pills are readily available for couples who do not want to go through surgical options. The effect lasts for up to 2 days. However, these medicines disrupt the hormonal balance in women. This is why it is always advisable to take these medicines under the guidance of doctors.

4. Contraceptive Injections

Contraceptive injections are often used by women. One injection lasts for a month. Contraceptive injections are one of the safest ways to avoid unwanted pregnancy. In this method, the medicine that builds a strong layer of mucus on the cervix is injected, which hinders the entering of the sperms.

5. Copper T

Copper T is a long term and easy way to control pregnancy. It lasts for about 12 years. The procedure requires the insertion of a plastic or copper tool in the cervix to prevent the fusion of eggs and sperm. The procedure takes about a couple of hours. Fertility can be restored once the Copper T is removed.

 

It is recommended to take these contraceptions without consulting a specialist. Also, the use of oral contraceptives should be restricted to minimal.
