Dandruff - Know Ayurvedic Way Of Tackling It!
Dandruff is a common skin condition that can affect men and women of all ages. It is known as Darunaka in Ayurveda. According to Ayurveda, Darunak is a Vatakapha predominant tridoshaj disease. It is characterized by the appearance of white skin flakes and itchiness of the scalp. Dandruff is not a fatal condition, but it can be quite embarrassing. Thankfully, dandruff is easy to treat. Ayurvedic treatment for this scalp disorder has negligible side effects and makes use of things that are commonly found at home. Here are a few easy remedies for dandruff.
- Curd: Curd is a rich source of vitamin B5 and proteins that help moisturize and fortify hair thereby preventing dandruff. It also has properties that help reduce itchiness and irritation of the scalp. Curd can be used as a hair mask on its own or mixed with a little gram flour. Application of curd mixed with amla can also be beneficial.
- Aloe vera: Aloe vera has great medicinal value because of its anti-fungal properties. When applied on the scalp, it also moisturizes the scalp and prevents dryness. To treat dandruff, apply aloe vera gel on your scalp and leave for 45 minutes before rinsing it off with water. It is important not to shampoo the gel off. You could also mix aloe vera gel, fenugreek or eucalyptus oil to make your hair mask.
- Eggs: Eggs nourish and hydrate hair thereby preventing dryness. It also moisturizes the hair and conditions it. To treat dandruff make a hair mask out of an egg and water solution or by mixing olive oil or vinegar with egg white. While olive oil further nourishes the hair, vinegar helps cleanse it.
