Diabetic Retinopathy
Hi,
I am Dr. Shashi N Jha, Ophthalmologist. I will talk about diabetic retinopathy. As you all know that India is known as the diabetes capital of the world. We are growing in numbers. That is the disease which can affect any part of the eye. And people have certain wrong notions which I would like to clarify. A good blood sugar level helps in controlling diabetes diseases. Complications will not come in due course of time.
The person has to be very careful about 2 organs. The eyes and the kidneys. Though, this is the one disease which will affect any part of the body. The day diabetes is diagnosed, it is your duty and physician duty to make your report to the ophthalmologist every year for the eye check-up. Even if there is no problem in the eye. Because once the symptoms come, the disease has crossed its threshold and the treatment becomes difficult.
After a particular stage, treatment becomes almost impossible and this is one of the leading cause of developing blindness in the world and we are catching out fast with them. So, it is my utmost request to all the diabetic patients to come and report to an ophthalmologist regularly even when you are told every time told you to come for a follow-up next time. This will help in the long run to preserve your eyesight and your faith in us.
Thank You!
