Medical evidence suggests that IVF babies are likely to develop diseases such as diabetes and obesity. According to research, the DNA of these babies is different from other babies.

IVF babies are more likely to have metabolic disorders and low weight during birth. This is because the IVF procedure may create epigenetic differences that might lead to these diseases among children. Babies born through IVF have a higher chance of developing obesity as they are usually large at the time of birth. They are most likely to develop diabetes due to obesity later in life.

Fertility specialists state that over the next two decades, the babies born through IVF are likely to develop diabetes – especially type 2 diabetes, hypertension, and even cancer. These conditions start manifesting when they enter middle age.

A study in 2006, conducted by the Department of Health in Britain shed more light on the concept. The team analyzed a group of 75 babies born through IVF and 100 naturally born babies. The genetic differences were around 10% in among both groups. As the sperm is directly injected into the eggs, the process increases the health risks for babies. Although these studies do not establish a direct relationship between IVF and diabetes, they point to the potential concern.

What you can do to reduce the risk?

You can take the following measures–

• Stick to a healthy diet plan. Include plenty of whole natural foods to ensure your body is well nourished.
• Exercise for an hour at least 5 times a week.
• Avoid smoking and drinking alcohol.

Therefore, to ensure that your child is healthy, carefully weigh the pros and cons before opting for the IVF procedure.
