Feeling Of Something Struck In Throat (FOSIT) - Know More!
A lot of patients complains of symptoms like:
A) something is obstructing my throat for quite some time. (gale mei kuchh atka atka sa rehta hai)
B) chronic throat pain/discomfort (gale mei kaafi time se uljhan/dard)
C) change in voice (awaz ka badalna)
D) burning sensation throat (gale mei jalan)
These kinds of patients should get checked up by an ent specialist where the proper examination is done and a diagnosis can be made.
One of the most common cause is termed as LPR (laryngopharyngeal reflux). In this disease, the acid produced in the stomach rises up through food pipe and goes all the up to larynx (voice box) and pharynx causing irritation and giving rise to these symptoms. An ent throat examination and fibre optic laryngoscopy (fol) can diagnose this condition.
LPR is a benign condition which is usually managed with proper dietary habits and medication to counter gastric reflux. Good dietary habits I would suggest are:
1) get up early and drink 2 glasses of water. This will keep your digestion good and prevent reflux.
2) avoid tea, coffee, soft drinks, chocolate, smoking and alcohol. They all are the cause of acidity.
3) avoid spicy and oily foods.
4) avoid heavy diets and take frequent small meals (4-5 meals a day rich in proteins with low fats and carbs)
5) drink plenty of water
6) exercise daily with some sport activity
There could be other many causes for its simple laryngeal structural abnormalities like cysts/polyp/nodules to malignant tumors (cancer larynx). This requires further examination and management.
