Unplanned pregnancy can happen due to improper use of condom, its failure or non use of protection during intercourse. This can also affect both the partners psychologically and may end up in abortion. To avoid such unpleasant events one should keep the following in mind to make the love making a happy experience rather than an upsetting one.

To further indulge into the topic first let us tell you about condoms and its types. Typically, condoms are made of a thin rubber-like material that unfolds in a tube-like shape and is worn during sex by males over their penis or by women inside their vagina.

Also, known as protection, condoms work as a protective layer to mostly avoid exchange of semen and other bodily fluids. It also negates the chances of getting pregnant and contracting any sexual transmitted infection or disease.

Condoms roughly come into two types; for male and female condoms and both are worn to serve the same purpose; avoiding pregnancy and STDs. However, condoms aren’t 100% safe in providing protection against any of these two.

Male condoms are roughly 98% efficient against pregnancy when worn correctly and if worn in an improper way it can lead to pregnancy and if not then they only work 82% of the time.

Whereas, female condoms, if used appropriately, can provide around 95% protection and if not then they only work 79% of the time.

To enjoy the pleasure of physical intimacy without worrying about the failure of your condom, follow these instruction to use condom as a protection against pregnancy;

How to use a male condom

  • Make sure the condom is intact, not damaged, and is not past its expiration date by examining its expiration date printed on the package.
  • Take care when opening the package; avoid using your teeth or scissors. Properly check the condom to make sure it is not damaged, dried out, brittle or sticky.
  • Find its tip that looks like a little dome. This will assist in ensuring that you roll the condom on properly. Set it atop your fully extended penis. The dome of the penis or other item should be encircled by the condom's rim.
  • Always pay attention to the rim of the condom. If it is inside of the dome it won't glide down properly and if it is outside you are good to put it on.
  • Pinch the condom's tip to remove any air and leave a little room about half an inch at the tip for your semen to collect after ejaculation. This also lessens the likelihood of the condom breaking.
  • Keep rolling the condom all the way down till the bottom of your penis.
  • In case you put your condom the wrong way, never correct it by turning it around and putting it on again. But change it as the other side might have got sperms from the pre-ejacuatory fluid present on your penis.
  • Never touch any genital part of your partner with your penis without putting on a condom, to avoid transferring any ejaculatory fluid containing sperms.
  • Go for lubricant (lube) as it not only improves the pleasure of intercourse but also prevents condoms from rupturing. Use water- or silicone-based lubricants as they are not just safe for your condom but also make the experience memorable. However, oil-based lubricants or any other oil products with latex condoms, such as petroleum jelly or mineral oil can result in condom breakage
  • Before putting on the condom, you may apply a few drops of lube within the condom's tip or also add extra lubrication to the exterior of the condom after putting it on the penis.

Instructions to take-off a male condom

  • Never take your condom off during the entire sexual intercourse.
  • After ejaculation the safest way to remove the condom is to hold its rim in your hand and gently pull the penis away from your partner's body to prevent the leakage. Also, do this before the penis becomes soft or the condom becomes too flimsy or leaky.
  • Carefully dispose-off the used condom away in the garbage bin.
  • Condoms should never be reused. You should always put on a fresh condom, every time you engage in oral, vaginal, or anal intercourse. Also, even if you change from one form of sex to another, you should always use a fresh condom.

How to use a female condom

  • Look out for any tears or other flaws in the box, and check for the expiration date.
  • Clean your hands before taking out the condom from the packaging.
  • Carefully tear the package from where it is instructed to be opened. Never try to open the packet using sharp objects like scissors, teeth, nails as it can tear or damage the condom.
  • Find a comfortable position to insert the condom like standing with legs apart, squating, bending with leg stretched or lying down.
  • Now pinch the sides of inner rings to make it narrow and easy to insert in the vagina or anus. Use your finger to push the condom as high as possible.
  • For an easier insertion, try lubricating outside of the closed ends.
  • Be careful while putting-in the condom to avoid twisting it.
  • Take out your finger from the condom after placing it in your vagina or anus and check if the outer edge of the condom's opening is outside the vaginal opening.
  • Ensure that the sex object or penis easily goes inside the condom without squeaking out from the side. Pull the outer ring back out if it gets forced into the anus or vagina.
  • If everything is good you can leave the condom inside for up to 8 hours before indulging into intercourse.
  • During intercourse if you sense your partner's penis is sliding between the condom and your body, or if it has slipped into your body, or if the condom itself has slipped out of its proper position, stop immediately.
  • Once the ejaculation happens it can be removed to avoid the mess from spilling the ejaculatory fluid collected inside. A female condom can be left inside after sex but theings can get messy after you stand up.

Instructions to take-off a female condom

  • To remove the condom from the vagina or anus, carefully twist it off and gently remove it without spilling the ejaculatory fluid.
  • Never reuse an internal condom as they are for single-use only.
  • Dispose it off safely in the garbage bin.

Conclusion

Pleasure often comes from fantasies and adventure but sexual pleasure, if not done mindfully, can lead to unpleasant circumstances. It is always advisable to wear a condom before indulging in sexual intercourse and also be very carefull about its proper usage technique and other aspects to avoid unplanned pregnancy.
