Two types of Hair Transplant operations - FUE and FUT

Good morning  this Dr Vikas Panthri. In our previous video had talked about the pre-operative management of hair transplant. Today we shall talk about the hair transplant procedure parse. The hair transplant operation is of two types Follicular Unit Transplant (FUT) or follicular Unit Extraction (FUE). In both the operations we have three steps extraction of the follicles, the slitting where we are creating slits for the follicles to be implanted and implantation on the following slits which we have created.

Now both of these surgeries differ in their first step which is extraction. In follicular unit transplant method we are taking out a strip from your back of your head from one ear to another ear which is 1 to 1.5 cm wide.  After we take out the skin from this area, the cutting of the follicles outside this area is under high resolution microscopes which we have installed in our setups in both Delhi and Mumbai. This scar which is closed later with dissolvable sutures remain hidden below your hair which are present in your donor area and closure of this scar is done by the trycophatic technique where in the hair will grow from the edges of the scar making it virtual untraceable after a period of two to three months.

The second technique is follicular unit extraction (FUE) or follicular extraction involves trimming of the head, giving local anaesthesia to the donor area also and punching out the hair follicles 2.7 to 2.8 millimetres punches through our automated fue machines.  These follicles when extracted outside the body are again implanted in the same way as the previous surgery in the slits we are creating. The most important step in any hair transplant surgery whether it is FUT or FUE is slitting wherein we are deciding in which pattern we have to give the hair. The angle, the tilt and direction should suit the patient's head. This is what decides the final result and outcome of the patient.
