We all love the look of lighter hair, but unfortunately, it comes at a cost, both financially and physically. Lighter hair means more frequent trips to the salon and using harsh chemicals that can damage your locks. So you must be wondering how this situation can be tackled, aren't you?

One of the best ways to deal with such a situation is to lighten your hair naturally in the comfort of your home. You will be glad to learn that there are a number of natural hair lightening methods that are even approved by many renowned professional colorists across the globe. Keep in mind, though, that these methods may not be as powerful as bleach or other similar materials, but they could still work wonders for many of us.

If you were already looking for options to lighten your hair at home, you must be considering some boxed color products that you could buy at your local pharmacy, grocery store, or even online. However, before you think of whipping out your credit card, you might consider a few natural remedies, which are as follows:

Lemon Juice (or Lemon Vodka)

Did you know that lightening your hair naturally is possible with lemon juice? Yes, you heard that absolutely right! However, it must be noted that this method works best on lighter or blonde shades.

All you need is some fresh, real lemon juice, a certain amount of water (as much as is required), and a spray bottle. Then, you need to blend the lemon juice with water inside the spray bottle. When it's done, apply it by spraying it directly on your hair (focusing on the roots).

Let it dry in the sun for a few hours before you finally rinse and condition your hair. If you want more dramatic results, you can even try using lemon vodka instead of lemon juice in the same procedure.

Chamomile Tea and Apple Cider Vinegar

Mixing chamomile and apple cider vinegar can be a great way to lighten your hair naturally. The reason why apple cider vinegar works is that it helps restore your hair's pH levels, no matter what texture of hair you have. And needless to say, the vinegar scent will eventually go away.

Here is what you are going to need to make this natural product:

  • 1/4 cup of apple cider vinegar
  • 1/4 cup of chamomile tea
  • A squeeze of lemon juice (optional)

Once you have all of your supplies, mix the ingredients in a bowl or spray bottle. Then, make sure to saturate your hair with the mixture, and then leave it on all day long. Stepping out in the sun may be helpful in speeding up or catalyzing the process of lightening your hair.

When you are done, rinse your hair and style it as usual. You may be required to repeat the whole process a few times if you want to achieve the desired results.

Honey and Cinnamon

Honey and cinnamon are common and very popular kitchen ingredients that are known for their hydrogen peroxide-boosting properties. This makes them an excellent option for lightening your hair naturally! To get started, you will, first of all, need the following ingredients:

  • One tablespoon of cinnamon
  • One-fourth cup of raw honey
  • One tablespoon of olive oil
  • One-fourth cup of distilled water

Once you have all of these ingredients with you, just combine them together and let the mixture sit for at least an hour. Then, apply it to your damp hair and leave it in for a few hours or overnight (whatever may suit you).

You can scale the ingredients depending on how much hair you have (just keep the ratio of four times the amount of honey to cinnamon the same). For best results, you may need to go through this process at least 10 (or even more) times.

Natural Henna Powder

Henna powder, which essentially comes from a plant, has been used for thousands of years for purposes such as to stain leather or adorn a woman's skin with attractive designs. Apart from that, henna powder has also been a great way to dye hair naturally. Brunettes, particularly those with dark brown to black hair, can use henna powder in order to achieve natural highlights, a lighter color, or simply a change in tone.

To use henna powder for hair dyeing purposes, you will need:

  • Three tablespoons of henna powder
  • Half a cup of boiling water

Combine the henna powder with boiling water in order to turn it into a paste, and let it sit overnight. Apply the paste directly to your hair for at least a couple of hours.

Thereafter, you must cover your head with a shower cap so that your scalp and clothing are not dyed. In the end, just rinse out the paste and style your hair as usual.
