It is mostly found in small infants and children of age between 1 to 15 years old. Sometimes it has been noticed that it also appears on the elbows and behind the knees of children, teenagers and adults.
CAUSES
In the present time the doctor's view is that eczema is caused by a lethal combination of factors which includes genetics in a human body, activities that may cause our skin to be more responsive towards eczema, the defects in the skin barrier which allows moisture out and germs inside of our body. Some examples of irritants are- soaps, perfume, cosmetics, chlorine, dust, sand, solvents, cigarette smokes etc.
SYMPTOMS
It is believed that the symptoms of eczema vary according to the age of the person suffering from the condition. The rashes commonly appear on creases of the elbows, at the back of the knees or on the nape of the neck. It is very itchy and can cause dry skin. The portion of the affected skin by eczema depends on how much a person is scratching the infected area. More a person scratches the infected portion, the larger the area affected by eczema.
DIAGNOSIS
For the identification of eczema no lab test is required. By scrutinising your skin and evaluating your medical history the doctor will make the diagnosis. He/she may also use the process of patch testing or other tests to eliminate other skin diseases or identify the conditions that co- occur with eczema. If you notice a rash on the child's body after having a meal then you must quickly tell the doctor and ask about identifying some potential food allergies that are infectious to your child's body.
