Nutrition For Kids During Summer Break!
Summer vacation is approaching and mothers are wondering how they can keep their kids physically and mentally occupied. Another major worry is how to keep their tummy full and happy. Sharing some tips -
1. Kids love aerated drinks which are loaded with chemicals, preservatives and unnecessary sugar. So, ensure that your fridge is not stocked with these. Instead, keep homemade shikanji concentrate, aam paana, thandai, roofafza, orange juice, coconut watee etc. These will have a cooling effect and are rich in vitamins and minerals. If you are a stay at home mom, you can serve them regular/ flavoured lassi, chhach or milk shakes.
2. Always keep fridge stocked with fruits because fruits/ cucumber/ jaldi etc make an excellent mid afternoon or tiffin time snack which will keep them full for sometime and are also rich in vitamins.
3. Keep popcorn, roasted chana, makhane, peanuts, roasted mixtures, dates, mathris as snacks which they can munch upon in the afternoon (while moms are taking a nap) instead of eating up a pack of cream biscuits which will only cause a sugar hype and they will be hungry again very soon.
4. Ensure that they take a healthy full breakfast unlike the quick hurried one they take during school days. Serve them cereal, and a source of protein like paneer, egg, dal chila so that they feel full for a longer time.
5. Flavoured yoghurts or fruit cream or custard or kheer or halwa make a better dessert than ice-cream.
Wishing everyone a healthy and happy summer vacation!
