Schneiderian Papilloma - Know More About It!
Schneiderian papilloma is also called sino-nasal papilloma. It is a harmless epithelial neoplasm and happens in the sinonasal tract.
According to the World Health Organization, there are three categories of Schneiderian papilloma-

Inverted papilloma

Exophytic papilloma

Oncocytic papilloma
Inverted Papilloma
It is the most common type of papilloma. It occurs in the lateral nasal wall or paranasal. It happens more frequently in females than in men. It normally happens to people in their 50s and 60s. Its association with the Human Papilloma Virus is both high risk and low risk. The architectural pattern is inverted (endophytic). The nature of the epithelial lining is squamous, transitional or respiratory. It has very little possibility of transforming into a malignant papilloma (nearly 5-15%)
Exophytic Papilloma
It is the second most frequent type of Schneiderian papilloma. It occurs at the nasal septum. It is much more frequent in men than in women. It sets in when a person is in his/her 30s, 40s or 50s. It has a low-risk association with HPV. Its architectural pattern is exophytic (filiform). And its epithelial lining is squamous, transitional or respiratory. It has no possibility of becoming malignant.
Oncocytic Papilloma
It has the least common type of Schneiderian papilloma. It happens in the lateral nasal wall or paranasal sinus. It is equally prevalent among both men and women. A person is likely to contract it in his/her 50s or 60s. It has no association with HPV. The architectural is exophytic or endophytic. Its epithelial lining is oncocytic. It has a 4-17% risk of turning malignant.
The incident rate of .74 to 2.3 % of every 100,000 people. Some common symptoms associated with Schneiderian papilloma nasal congestion, runny nose, nasal blockage, and epistaxis.
