Stomach Disorders - All You Must Know!
Stomach disorders are quite common and patients usually visit Gastroenterologists for the treatment.
Usual symptoms are:
1. Acidity or hyperacidity: Burning of the upper abdomen
2. Gas or Bloating: Feeling of unusual fullness after or before meals
3. Vomiting: This can be the symptom of Stomach cancer or severe gastritis or gastric ulcer
4. Abdominal pain: This can be seen in stomach ulcer due to NSAIDS, H.Pylori, Severe acidity, stomach ulcer and stomach cancer
5. Blood vomiting also known as Hemetemesis: This can be due to esophageal varices or gastric varices in chronic liver disease, or can be seen in gastric ulcer or severe gastritis. It is an emergency and requires gastroscopy or commonly known as endoscopy for diagnosis and treatment.
For the proper diagnosis of stomach disorders, gastroenterologists must be consulted and proper diagnosis requires Blood tests, USG abdomen, CT scan Abdomen and Gastroscopy. Gastroenterologists decide which tests are required for particular patients and hence patient-centric treatment is provided.
Screening of stomach cancer is now available by high-resolution endoscopy and Narrowband imaging (NBI). NBI helps in early diagnosis of superficial Stomach cancer in early stage and hence can be cured by Endoscopy without the need for surgery.
