Keratosis pilaris are common skin condition that causes tiny bumps on the skin. The bumps often develops on the back of the arms.
Keratosis pilaris is mainly found on the upper arms, thighs, cheeks, or buttocks.
Symptoms
- Keratosis pilaris can occur at any age, but it’s more common in young children. Signs and symptoms include
- Painless, red or slight pinkness, tiny bumps, typically on the upper arms, thighs, cheeks, or buttocks
- Dry, rough skin in the areas with bumps
- Worsening when seasonal changes cause low humidity and the skin tends to be drier
- Sandpaper -like bumps resembling goose flesh
Causes
Keratosis pilaris results from the buildup of keratin -a hard protein that protects skin from harmful substances and infection. The keratin forms a scaly plug that blocks the opening of the hair follicle. Usually many plugs form, causing patches of rough, bumpy
Skin.

- Close blood relatives history
- Asthma
- Dry skin
- Eczema (atopic dermatitis)
- Obese
- Hay fever
- Ichthyosis vulgaris
- Womens are more prone
- Children or teenagers
Diagnosis
- This condition doesn’t require any testing
- Diagnosis is made by physical examination

- This condition is usually a self treatable

Prevention
- Avoid tight clothing
