Vitiligo

I am Dr. Umesh Bilewar. I am consultant dermatologist and hair transplant surgeon from Ozone Care Clinic. Today I am here to discuss vitiligo. So, let's understand the basic things about body. Immune system of our body which plays a very important role in protecting us out from threat. It may in form of infection or outside injuries. It protects us from threats which are internal to body like something is happening in growing proportion. Our body has different organs with different functions. Same as skin is called as the largest organ of the body. Now coming to the vitiligo. Our immune system start acting against our body.

This can also happen in case of other organs also. If the immune system starts reacting against pancreas then it may lead to diabetes. If it is against thyroid so, it can lead to hypothyrodism. Similarly, because of various reasons like genetics, oxidative stress or infection or in most of the cases, reasons are unknown. It starts acting against the cells of skin. It leads to loss of pigment in your cell which leads to patches on our body which is called as vitiligo. Now every white patch is not a vitiligo.

It is presents in animals also. Cows, buffaloes even plants like roses are in different colors because the lose of pigments. Similarly, in human population, it is in good number. It is not a disease. It is just that the immune system is acting against the body. It is a disorder. It is the attitude of society at fault. Human with vitiligo are perfectly fine. Their body functions are fine. We don't have to differentiate. They are doing fine in their life. So, the treatment, it is definitely treatable. Various options are available for treatment.
