What Is Prostate Gland?
Hello,
I am Dr. Upwan K Chauhan, Urologist. Today I will talk about prostate gland. The prostate gland is the gland which is situated below the urinary bladder and its size is of walnut. After the age of 45, it starts increasing in size and surrounds the urethra. It compresses the urinary passage and causes symptoms which are getting up in the nigh fo more than 3 times, incomplete evacuation of the bladder, frequency or urge to pass urine. When these symptoms arise after 45-50 years of age, the patient has these symptoms and he should always contact our Dr about these. The diagnosis is made on the basis of the ultrasound glands, we see the PAS and the urine flow also. The prostate glands, when it grows in size, it causes the obstruction and causes the urinary infection and irritative fluids. When these patients come to us they have lower urinary tract symptoms. Sometimes these patients when they present late, they may have repeated infections, UTI repeatedly. When they have not paid the attention to it, even in the creatinine level or CKD can happen.
The patient requires an initial evaluation and then the medicines are given. Medicines relax the bladder and the patient starts to urinate well. 60-70% of patients may respond to these drugs. Ultimately, when the symptoms are continuing and it is affecting the lifestyle of the patient then he may require the operation for it. Nowadays operations are done endoscopically. Cutting can be done with the laser or KTP laser. For this operation, the patient is admitted for 2-3 days. The catheter is placed and the next day it is removed. The patient's symptoms go away and he pees well. So, after 45-50 years, the patient should definitely get his PSA checked and ultrasound so that the symptoms can be detected early. For prostatic health, the most important thing is exercise and he should take a low-fat diet and take a lot of green vegetables.
Thank you.
