What is the treatment?
Dysmenorrhea , ovarian cyst
How is the treatment done?
Gynae problems usually arise from hormonal imbalance. The gynecological problems are sometimes unrelated to reproductive organs such as back pain, increased urination etc. There are various gynecological problems such as dysmenorrhea (cramping lower abdominal pain with the onset of menstruation which might lead to pelvic infections). The painful menstruation (dysmnorrhea) is the most common form of gynecological problem which are also caused by the improper contractions in the uterus. Ovarian cyst is also a form of gynecological problem which are caused by cysts which are formed in the ovary due to excessive large follicle and does not open and release the egg. These cysts can contain blood from the leakage of blood into the egg sac. Endometriosis is also a common form of gynae problems. Endometriosis happens when there is a tissue growing on the outside of the uterus and also in certain areas of your body where it is unnecessary. Another form of gynae problem is known as poly cyst ovarian disease (POCD). This is a problem in women during childbearing age. The cause of POCD start slowly after the first menstrual period of teens which later on leads to fertility problems, improper insulin resistance in the body, pain in the abdomen during menstruation and depression along with mood swings.
Who is eligible for the treatment? (When is the treatment done?)
Gynecological problems are mostly non cancerous. If you are facing with some gynecological problems, immediately consult your gynecologist to identify the condition that you are in. One of the common treatment procedure for gynecological problems are a laparoscopic “key hole” surgery where an equipment called a laproscope is used to perform certain surgeries in the abdominal pelvic organs. Hysteroscope is also a viable option of treatment which is similar to laproscopic surgeries but over here the additional tissues or polyps that are formed in your body are removed. Endometrial ablation is also a common procedure to eliminate the endometrial lining on the walls of the uterus. However in this type of treatment the patient should agree that she does not want to become pregnant and wishes for full treatment. In certain situations to solve the problem of uterine bleeding, surgery is the best option. During times of great distress, to eliminate all the major problems that you face, your gynecologist might advise you to have a hysterectomy where they will remove your uterus which means that you can only perform this operation if you do not wish to get pregnant in the future. Other forms of treatment are hormonal pills, injection or IUD to reduce the excessive bleeding, cramps and pain.
Who is not eligible for the treatment?
You should call your healthcare provider immediately if you are facing with the following problems. If you are having gynecological problems then you might experience that your periods are less than 21 days apart or more than 45 days apart. You might also face excessive abdominal pain during menstruation or even during sexual intercourse. You should also be concerned if your period lasts more than 7 days. You should also obtain treatment if you notice bleeding or spotting after your menstrual cycle.
Are there any side effects?
Sometimes complications might arise if you have had any form of injury or severe vaginal irritation which sometimes is not associated with gynecological problems. You should consult your healthcare provider and confirm the type of treatment that you should start.
What are the post-treatment guidelines?
If you have certain hormonal imbalances or complications then you might have certain side effects to the treatment. These side effects commonly include tubal or ectopic pregnancy, vaginal dryness and irritation, irregular menstrual cycles and pregnancy problems. However these side effects gradually fade away in course of time, the recovery time depends from person to person.
How long does it take to recover?
The post treatment guidelines are mainly to continue with the medications that are provided by your gynecologist. The medications help you to regain hormonal balance and prevent you to suffer from further uterine problems. In some cases, your medical expert might also advise you to keep a check on the sexual intercourse and advise to take precautions for a certain period of time.
What is the price of the treatment in India?
The recovery time for the gynecological problems is prolonged depending on person to person. If you undergo any form of surgery then you should be able to resume your day to day activities in a week. Those who do not require surgery and are obtaining treatment via external medicines may continue to face problems for sometime but they can carry out the day to day activities. However, you might require consultation with your medical expert in case of pregnancy related issues.
Are the results of the treatment permanent?
The medications range from Rs. 500 to Rs. 2,800 depending on the type of medication that you are prescribed. If you are advised to have a surgery then the surgery approximately ranges from Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 45,000.
What are the alternatives to the treatment?
The treatment procedure requires some ample time for complete recovery. You might stop facing the problems that you used to if you maintain the precautions of the treatment procedure. Many a times the results are permanent but it might come at a cost such as hysterectomy, where you cannot become pregnant after the surgery but it eliminates all the problems that you were facing.
