Nosebleed Treatment: Cost and Side Effects

Nose bleeding is quite common and by itself is not a major problem. However, the bleeding can be indicative of other underlying issues in the body. There can be several kinds of nose bleeding, generally classified as mild, moderate or severe. While most mild nose bleeds do not require any medical treatment, moderate and severe cases may require a trip to the hospital.

Mild nose bleeds can be treated at home by simply applying pressure on the nose for around 10 to 20 minutes. During such bleeding, the blood may even flow down the throat of the patient.

This is because remote instances of blood from the nose are considered to be common and not something to be distressed about. Furthermore, such nose bleeds can be easily managed by applying pressure on the nose for 10 minutes.

Side effects depend on the treatment that is being used. If the bleeding is caused as a result of certain allergies, antihistamine is prescribed. Some of these medications may cause dizziness, nausea and restlessness. However, none of the side effects are severe and will likely disappear on their own. If patients develop serious side effects, they should consult the physicians immediately.

Post the treatment, patients should stay vigilant and watch out for other nose bleeds. If the bleeding recurs, the physician should be consulted immediately. Apart from this, patients must also care for the nose and nasal passages. Doctors may prescribe nasal sprays and other medications and it is crucial to follow the prescriptions.

Recovery depends on the underlying condition affecting the patient. If the condition is caused due to rhinitis, recovery may take a week or two. However, if the condition is caused due to a deviated septum, the symptoms may remain longer, even when the treatment is started.

Price of the treatment depends on the condition affecting the patient. However, in case of mild nose bleeding, no treatment may be needed. For moderate and severe nose bleeding the cost for treatment may be sizable. At any rate, the cost for treatment may be anywhere between Rs. 100 and Rs. 25,000.

Results of the treatment are usually permanent, but the bleeding may recur due to an allergy or injury to the nose in the future.

There are no alternatives to the treatment and the conventional medication may be the best way to cure excessive nose bleeds.
