Benefits of yoga for acidity

Nearly everyone at some point of time their lives encounter the problem of acidity. This condition usually occurs when an individual consumes food that is excessively salty, spicy, and oily. Drinking beverages like tea, coffee, and alcohol can also cause acidity. Another possible cause of acidity is the habit of smoking. Besides these, there are various other factors as well that can lead to the problem of acidity for instance stress of daily life and lifestyle.

One of the most natural and efficient cures for acidity is yoga. There are several simple asanas in yoga that can help in alleviating the problem of acidity. For people with a weak digestive system, yoga protects from acidity by increasing the blood flow to the intestine and stomach so that the food can get digested easily. Yoga provides assistance in stimulating the bowel movement which eliminates all the toxins and waste. Practicing yoga stimulates an energy boost which relives the body from all the stress. As per a study conducted recently regular practice of yoga can provide an excellent way for alleviating acidity problem. Given below are some of the asanas in yoga which can help an individual in eliminating the problem of acidity.

Forward Bend Pose

This yoga pose helps the abdominal organs function properly and treats problems with digestion. Start with a sitting position where your legs are extended in front of you and your hands are on the side. Keep your spine straight as you try to extend your hands so that you may touch your toes. Try to hold the position for five minutes as you breathe evenly.

Reclining Butterfly Pose

Start by lying down with the feet extended. Bend the knees so as to join the soles of the feet. Try to bring the heels towards your pelvic region. Position your hands on the floor with the palms facing up. Try to hold this position for about 3 minutes.

Cat

This pose helps improve blood circulation and relaxes the digestive organs. You should start by standing on all fours. Inhale as you lift the chin and push the abdomen towards the floor. Exhale as you tilt your head towards the floor. Return to the original position and repeat this for another five times.

Thunderbolt Pose

This yoga pose when done after a meal helps digest food better and prevents acidity. It also improves blood circulation in the stomach and the intestines. Start with a kneeling position. Keeping your head and spine straight and the hands on your knees, sit back on your heels. Take concentrated, gentle breaths as you hold this position for 10 minutes.

Half Spinal Twist Pose

This yoga pose helps remove toxins from the blood circulation and reduces acidity. Sit straight with the legs extended. Keep the hands on your sides and your spine straight. Fold your left knee onto the other side and bring the foot towards the pelvis. Do the same with your right knee. It should look like a crossed leg position. Now twist your body as you breathe in deeply and exhale as you return to the original. Repeat the same on the other side.

Doing yoga regularly may sometimes be not enough if a person does not consume a nutritious and healthy diet. The overall health of not just the stomach but the entire body is in some regards dependent on the diet consumed. Fortunately, there are certain food products which when incorporated in the diet not only provide relief in acidity but also are good for health. Vegetables which are low in fat and sugar naturally help in reducing the amount of acid produced in the stomach.

Incorporating green beans, cauliflower, cucumbers, asparagus, and broccoli can provide great healthy options. Including ginger tea in the diet can be advantageous as ginger is a natural treatment for heartburn. Addition of non-citrus fruits like pears, apples, and bananas are not likely to induce any symptoms of acidity. Foods that are an excellent source of fiber like oatmeal absorb stomach acid and reduce the symptoms of acidity. A person taking any medicine prescribed by the doctor for relief in acidity must be taken regularly as it helps in alleviating the condition of acidity.
