He attended the prestigious Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC) in Pune. Later he did his post-graduate specialization in Psychiatry at the State University of New York, Health Science Center in New York, USA and also post-graduate super-specialization in Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry at the Baylor College of Medicine in Texas, USA 

The Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry super-specialty deals with patients who are suffering from complex neurological, medical, surgical, obstetric and other specialties and as well as Psychiatric disorders. 
Dr. Bhandary has rich and extensive experience in treating diverse Psychiatric disorders. He enjoys national recognition in the USA, in several areas in Psychiatry, especially in Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Brain Injury, Depression, Psychotic disorders and psychopharmacology (treatment with medications for Psychiatric disorders). Dr. Bhandary was also a Disability Consultant for the United States Military and U.S. Federal Government. Dr. Bhandary has served as a Director and Assistant Professor in Psychiatry at the Louisiana State University Medical Center in New Orleans, USA and also at the University of Oklahoma Health Science Center in Oklahoma, USA. In addition, he has served as the Section Chief of Behavioral Health (Psychiatry and Psychology) at the Mercy Hospital, rated as the best hospital in the state of Oklahoma. He was also a longstanding Director at the Oklahoma Institute of Psychiatric Medicine in Oklahoma City, USA. Dr. Bhandary has also served as a senior Psychiatry consultant in several hospitals in USA. Dr. Bhandary has won several awards including national awards in USA. Dr. Bhandary has published in several national and international medical journals. He was the Guest Editor for the internationally renowned Psychiatric Annals. He has worked closely with, treated patients, coordinated treatment, done research and published papers with numerous world renowned Psychiatrists as well as doctors from other medical specialties. He has presented several papers and lectured at several national and state conferences and also conducted several Continuing Medical Education (C.M.E.) lectures for doctors and other healthcare professionals. Dr. Bhandary has also founded as well as mentored numerous psychiatric support groups and lectured at several mental health patient conferences. He has also served as a Consultant for several major pharmaceutical companies. The American Psychiatric Association Executive Council elected Dr. Bhandary as a fellow for significant contributions to the field of Psychiatry.
