She should start the medication asap. Yes, there will be complications in pregnancy if BP is not controlled. Medicine are available which are safe in pregnancy.

Sometimes slight bleeding continues for 6 weeks, which usually is for 2-3 weeks. But if bleeding is more in amount then see a doctor and get an ultrasonography done.

Get urine pregnancy test done, if not done before taking the meds. And sometimes its takes a week or so for withdrawal bleeding to occur.
