Hello, I am Deepika Kohli. I am a female nutritionist working with British biologicals. I have a 17 years of experience as a nutritionist. I started my career with A.I.I.M.S with a W.H.O. project. After that, I was working with Jeevan Anmol Hospital as a chief dietician and worked with Faiser also as diabetes educator, worked with Ebbot also as a nutrition adviser. Presently with British Biologicals and working as a weight loss consultant with LifeCare and Jeevan Anmol hospital as well.
I help my patients to lose weight post-pregnancy. Patients with PCOS problems also comes to me to lose their weight. Initially, for example, I tell my patients they lose 5 kg’s in 5 weeks. I give them diet plan weekly. Weekly my patient loses 1-1 ½ kg’s. with my diet.
My diet is just your kitchen-based diet like small-small restrictions just to avoid bakery products, to avoid sweets and have small frequent meals which includes pulses, legumes, fresh fruits, boiled vegetables and avoiding the maida-based preparations. I tell my patients to avoid processed food, very easy to follow things which will give a very good result.
So, if you want consultation with me, you can contact me on Lybrate. You can fix appointment with me online and offline as well, through Lybrate."
Thank you.
I am Deepika Kohli. I am a femle nutritionist working with British Biologicals.I started my career with All India institute of Medical Sciences in a W.H.O. project. After that, I was working with chief dietician in Jeevan Anmol Hospital. Then with Faiser as diabetes educator. Then with Ebbot as a nutrition adviser. Presently I am dealing with all therapeutic diets like diabetic diets at LifeCare and Jeevan Anmol hospital as well.
Today, I will be talking about diabetes.
What is diabetes?
Diabetes is a chronic metabolic disorder in which a person is not able to utilise glucose completely. It’s of 2 types. Type-1 diabetes and Type-2 diabetes.
Type-1 diabetes totally insulin dependent.
Type- 2 diabetes which is found in middle-aged and elderly persons, it is non-insulin dependent.
What are the causes of diabetes?
Causes can be genetic and be due to sedentary lifestyle, due to some increased weight (obesity). So, this can be managed through diets, drugs, education and exercise.
I’ll be telling you dietary management of diabetes. A person who is diabetic should restrict their calories. If a patient is overweight, then I suggest them 20 kcal/kg body weight. It’s these calories they have to take. And if the patient is underweight, then 40 kcal/kg body weight calories. And if the person is of ideal body weight, then 25 kcal/kg body weight is the calorie requirement for that patient. And protein should be 15- 20% of total calories. 25-30 gm of total calories should come from fat. But the fibre is very very important for a diabetic patient. Like fibre is a thing which gives satiety feeling to the patient’s diet and along with that, it passes undigested from the small intestine to large intestine. Because a diabetic patient will feel very hungry during the day, so if we are giving small small amounts of salad, vegetables or thick vegetable soup along with fibre, so the patient will feel satiety and not feel hungry.
For consultation with me, you can fix an appointment with Lybrate, online and offline as well.
