Hello doctor, my wife is into her 37th week of pregnancy. Her scan carried out at 35th week and 37th week both show Amniotic fluid levels at 8.5 cms. Is it a reason to worry or is it low and there could be a risk to the baby?

Within days of an egg being fertilized, the amniotic sac begins to form and fill with fluid. Amniotic fluid acts as a buffer to protect the developing baby, cushioning against any bumps or injury. It also allows for easy movement, which promotes muscular and skeletal development. Normal amniotic fluid level is 5 to 20. Yours is fine...and still will fluctuate based on how much water you're drinking, how much baby pees, and what position baby is in when pockets are measured. I suggest you work with your gynecologist for a remedy. Take care
