My elder brother (28 year old) had a psychotic episode 1.5 years before, due to family issues. He had been treated for schizophrenia with risperidone for 10 months. During medication period he had most common side effects of risperidone such as excessive weight gain, slow movement, cognitive & memory issues. Due to those side effects, he couldn't able focus on his work and evidently, he lost the job as a design engineer from his company. He started with 3 mg of risperidone, now he is taking 2 mg risperidone + trihexyphenidyl hydrochloride 2 mg. Still he has same side effects of tablets, so Is there any possible methods to getting out of side effects like reducing risperidone composition into 1 mg or 0.5 mg?

Good morning, We now have medications that do not have the same side effects of the medication for schizophrenia that you mention. I believe you brother needs to switch either gradually from the medication that he is currently on to a more benign although potent medication. An expert psychiatrist is who you need to consult. I believe this can be done online since a ?change in medications can be monitored for tolerability and effects as usual since you already have experience with the medication administration and know what to watch out for. Look forward to hearing from you.
