Hey doctors, I have to ask one question I am 34 week pregnant and at 19 week scan shows echogenic bowel. My Dr. said to recheck at 28 week, so at 28 week it shows mild echogenic bowel and at 33 week is written echogenicity is unremarkable on this scan. Rest all good in report. I am worried please tell. NT scan value is 2 mm Triple marker shows low risk. Ratio is 1: 1313 at age term and 1: 845 at tr 21.

Echogenic bowel may be associated with chromosomal abnormalities but in your case the risk on trisomy screening is low. It may be seen in early pregnancy when there may be slight bleeding inside which you are not aware of and the baby swallows blood mixed amniotic fluid-this disappears on scanning later and has no consequences. The babys growth needs to be monitored as it may be affected in babies with echogenic bowel.
