A 70 years old lady in Bangalore has advanced stage 3 cancer of buccal cavity & needs surgery immediately. What herbs like Dandelion (seema Kaattu Mullangie), Turmeric, Garlic, etc. Must be taken to stop the spread of cancer & recover without Radiation & Chemotherapy? Where can I get Dandelion in Chennai & Bangalore in fresh state & dry state or powder? Please reply immediately as doctor says it spread to left cheek also & Chemotherapy may or may not be given, even if needed as lady is old.

For a buccal mucosa Cancer, surgery is better than any other modality. Chemotherapy before surgery may be given if very advanced borderline operable disease. A Biopsy and a CT Scan is mandatory before surgery (they may do a MRI in some cases). Depending upon the Clinical and the imaging findings, The plan of surgery would be made, which entails removal of the primary, neck dissection and reconstruction using a local flap or a free flap. Depending on pathology report, decision regarding adjuvant radiation or chemoradiation would be taken. Some of the Ayurvedic medicines, turmeric etc may have some activity against the tumors (steroids and metronomic chemotherapy are also known to reduce the tumor) but they are not curative in any way. The disease will come back and sometimes with a vengeance. It is better to go for conventional treatment rather than alternative medicine.
