My fasting blood sugar is vary between 100 to 125 and pp is under 150. Hba1c is 6.2. Please give me necessary advice .doctor provide me metformin 500 mg bd. Can I take this medicine or not?

Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. I get a feeling of having answered he same query a few days back. Your blood glucose levels and HbA1c% are all showing that you are in pre-diabetic state. Usually we do not advise any drug for this condition. But if some one is overweight, then metformin may be used. You need to adapt a modified lifestyle so that blood glucose levels remain in check. That will help in preventing development of overt diabetes or postpone it for a considerable time. You are already in grade 1 obesity with a BMI of 30.41 kgs/M2 (normal < 23 kgs/M2). Your ideal body weight should be 54 kgs. Which means you are almost 20 kgs in excess. Reducing weight will bring your blood glucose levels back to normal. Thanks.
