My mother has schizophrenia. I am giving her pills sizodon md 1 (3 mg) by mixing it with curd at dinner. Since she is not ready to have it herself. Doctor said it will take time to get normal. But someday she refuses to take curd and directly the pills are missed for that. So basically there is no regularity in taking her pills. Will this affect the functioning of the medication? And as I am her daughter (20 years, will I have schizophrenia too as I am going through alot?

Hello, Yes it will definitely have an affect on functioning she need to take medicine regularly. Sizodon has risperidone in it. There are long acting risperidone injectables present which can be given once in a month. They are advisable in person who are not compliant with medication. You can discuss with your practitioner regarding shifting her to long acting injectable. Schizophrenia do have genetic overloading, but that doesn't mean their is 100% transmission. You have to understand what she is doing is because of the illness. She has no touch with the reality at present and once she will improve with medication everything will be fine.
