I'm 49 yo male and diabetic for the past 12 years. What precautions should I take in food habits. I smoke and occasionally drink. I'm on insulin now.

Hello, Thanks for the query. For a person with diabetes following are the precautions to be taken: 1)Avoid sweets completely. Plus avoid deep fried foods, junk foods, pastries, bakery items and foods made from maida. Increase the intake of green leafy vegetables, salads and fruits. Always use whole grain flour for roti and chapati. Control the caloric intake based on your ideal body weight. Avoid smoking and alcohol. Maintain normal body weight. Ideally fasting glucose should be < 100 mg, PP 150 to 160 mg & HbA1c% < 6.8. Thanks.
