My mother is suffering from schizophrenia from last 20 years. She had a belief that my father is involve with some other women and she used to go to our neighbors to ask about it. Which leads to huge fight and physical abuse. Later when we shifted to a city her condition gets worsening she had few suicidal attempts and depressive state of mind and doubts and her beliefs get stronger day by day. Then my father consulted a psychiatrist and took my mother to him. After few days of treatment. She showed little improvement but later she refused going to there claiming it's my father's way to prove her mad. And after that she never admitts to go to psychiatrist though the symptoms still persist. She shouts alott one day and next day she doesn't even wake up. Though a neuro medicine doctor have given her treatment for bipolar. But the one thing which remain is her doubting on my father's character. It have not changed. And when we ask her to go to a psychiatrist she refuses to go there. We have been giving her medicine via mixing it in a tea or some sweets or any other possible way.

Dear lybrate-user, It is difficult to manage a mother living with schizophrenia. Somehow you are able to give her medicines. You can request neuro medicine doctor to consult the psychiatrist and give your mom appropriate dose or even long acting injectable antipsychotic. Delusion of infidelity can occur in both schizophrenia and bipolar. Let her be diagnosed properly. With treatment, she will not be talking bad about your dad to neighbours.
