She is pregnant in june-18 last week we done sonography.in that found placenta is lower. Dr. said take bed rest. My Q is it normal or high risk what precautions we have to take. Regards Ketan Patil.

It is not normal. If the placenta is seen to be in the lower part of the uterus in the third trimester, then the situation is known as ?Placenta previa If you have a low lying placenta in your 18 to 20 week scan you will be advised another ultrasound at around 32 weeks to assess the position of the placenta in the third trimeste Bleeding from placenta previa can be reduced in many cases by bed rest, limitation of activity, and/or avoiding sexual intercourse.

Lower placenta puts the patient at risk of bleeding any time which may be profuse. Slso chances of preterm labour are high. It's a high risk prevnancy but degree also depend upon the type of placenta previa.
