Hello Doctor, I wanted to know that if someone in my workplace is having TB, but that person is still coming to office, how can I protect my self from getting TB. Is there any vaccination available for prevention of TB?

If someone is not on treatment, then precautions such as cough etiquette, must be taken to prevent TB spreading from one adult to another. Another main part of TB prevention is to prevent people with latent TB from developing active, and infectious, TB disease. The final part of TB prevention is TB infection control.

Dear Lybrate user, you have asked a very pertinent question. TB is a contagious disease only when it is in open form, that is Lungs (sputum is contagious), open wounds (pus is contagious), rest all forms cerebral, intestine, bone etc are usually non contagious. If a person is taking treatment then usually in 2 months, he/she becomes non contagious. So if your office colleague is using mask and other precautions and is under treatment, you should not worry. Prophylaxis is only given in selected cases only. Hope this will help you relax and be normal with your colleague. Wishing you Good Health.
