Hi. Mr. lybrate-user, Your son is quite young to have his gall bladder removed. I would like to know if there were stones in gallbladder and were they deemed the reason for pancreatitis. Also, how severe was the pancreatitis and was any MRI scan done? Pancreatitis occurring at this age is usually due to hereditary / genetic causes or due to abnormal development of pancreas. I am asking this because if gallstones were not the reason for pancreatitis, we may need to find one if possible. However gallstones can also develop at this age, though not very common. Removal of gall bladder usually does not require any modification of diet. It is a storage organ for bile and does not produce it. There is no evidence to suggest that cholecystectomy would lead to weight gain. He should have the same physical activity / exercises as before to avoid sedentary life style.
