Dear Doctor. I am a male 40 yrs. I had sex with a sex worker on 23 Nov. The condom got ruptured and I only realized after finishing. There was also franular bleeding and as per the doc the reason for the condom rupture and bleed was due to an old type of birth control method (copper T) that the girl was using. I consulted a sexologist and started PEP treatment on 25 Nov. Within 55 hrs of possible exposure. I took the medicines diligently without missing a single dose for 30 days. The course ended on 24 Dec. My doctor took blood sample for testing on 8 Jan and same was tested in the lab on 9 Jan. The western blot test came out Negative for all parameters. The RNA quantitative PCR was TND. In the HIV Duo (serum, CMIA) the S/CO was 0.88 Non Reactive. My doctor said although its non reactive the 0.88 value is very high and advised me to continue the medication I was taking for PEP for another 1 month. This was on 14 Jan and there was already a 3 week gap between my first PEP regime completion. As per my doc although all the test showed negative the high CMIA value 0.88 - may mean that I still have the virus and hence PEP will help. I am not entirely sure now and also worried about tbe fact that I still have a chance of getting infected. Apologies for the long post but I have tried to give all information possible. Please help and guide.
