Dear Mr. lybrate-user, ideally for diabetic and hypertensive an ace inhibitor or arb has to be used. Since your doctor has advised atenonol he must be suspecting left ventricular dysfunction. It is advisable that you take her to a physician and get her evaluated properly. Headache can have multiple reasons, hypertension is one of it. It is dangerous to change medications like this.
