Question regarding my mother- 53 year old female patient with complaint of headache since 4 days, is a known case of hypertension (on amlodipine-5 mg) and diabetes (on metformin 500 mg. When consulted the local area hospital physician he advised atenolol 50 mg tablet in addition to the amlodipine 5 mg she is using currently. But he american heart association recommends the use of combination of two dif drugs of different classes of 1st line drugs for management of stage 2 hypertension according to latest guidelines. So please suggest the correct regimen and dose?
