Hello sir/ma?am my mother is a blood pressure patient from 9 years. Since the past few years, I have noticed that her heartbeat is always high in the evening and sometimes in the morning as well. In the morning it is around 75-79, in the afternoon it is 85-90 and in the evening it becomes 90-100. She takes a lot of burps during the entire day. And when she works for some time she feels her heart beating fast. All I want to know is that is it normal to have such a heartbeat or is it a thing to worry. Her cholesterol was normal however her hdl was 35.5. Thyroid is normal. Haemoglobin is 13.4 daily diet is 1 kiwi and 1 beetroot. She eats telma 20 for her blood pressure. Please give your suggestions. And is it normal to have a heartbeat from 90-100? Can the blood pressure medicine increase the heartbeat.

Yes lybrate-user, some drugs can increase or decrease heartbeats which are used as antihypertensive. But telmisartan is not having that side effects. Also, you had ruled out other causes of tachycardia. She may be a bit stressed, yoga and meditation can be helpful in this situation.

A persons heart beat varies day to day, time to time, second to second and that is a good sign of autonomic nervous system, however since shes a hypertensive I suggest you add a beta blocker (metoprolol 25 mg) to the telma tablet which she is already taking. Like telma-m also get a ambulatory bp (abpm) recording for her since I feel her dose is low. Tc.
