I have a friend who?s 24 years of age. She?s an alpha thalassemia patient and wants to go forward with an abortion. Is it safe to do so with misoprostol without any serious complications?

Hello.. First of all you need to know her hemoglobin .. Important to have her hemoglobin above 8 gm% Get her USG done to confirm the location and duration of pregnancy.. If pregnancy is less than 9 weeks , medical management with mifepristone and misoprostol is quite successful ( success rate is more than 95%). However it’s important to counsel that in 5% of cases there may be incomplete abortion or heavy bleeding requiring surgical abortion and blood transfusion..
