iron tablets are not prescribed in first trimester of pregnancy as they cause gastrointestinal side effects like gastritis ,nausea and vomitting and constipation. thus they increase the tendency of vomitting in patients . and patients are usually not able to tolerate iron tablets in first trimester. you have been advised as your haemoglobin level is quite low . if you can tolerate iron tablets in first trimester you can safely take them .
