I maintain my pp sugar level always below 140 for the last 2 years and strict diet and walking. My Dr. Insist on taking istamet 50/500 and semi reclimet in the morning and night daily. Is it necessary? Can I stop any one medicine. Please advice.

Hello, Thanks for the query. I have seen the details given. It is good to know that your glucose levels are very well maintained. One of the (main) reason for that is the drugs being taken to control. Diet and exercise definitely matter. But if you stop the drugs completely then glucose levels may not remain where those are today. So it is necessary to continue the treatment. Please check HbA1c% also. Another aspect at 72 years your ideal body weight should be about 55 kgs, where as it is 70 kgs. Present BMI is 27.34 kgs/Sq meter (normal < 23 kgs/Sq meter). You have not mentioned your fasting blood sugar level.If it is around 100 and pp blood sugar is 140 please dont reduce the medicines and follow advice of your doctor.
