My father in law has been diagnosed with advanced-stage lung cancer in 2017. He has completed his 4 cycles of chemotherapy, after testing for egfr, exon 19 mutation was detected, so he was on erlotinib since 2017, which was working good so far, but due to some new complications, he was again checked for egfr, where the mutations in exams 20 and 21 were also found along with exon 19. Now, the doctor recommended osimertinib. So, after starting this medicine how much survival we can expect in terms of years.

Lung cancer is a malignant tumor of the lung that results in uncontrollable growth of cells in the lung tissues. Surgery for lung cancer is a major operation and can have serious side effects, which is why surgery isn?t a good idea for everyone. Recovering from lung cancer surgery typically takes weeks to months. VATS recovery time is shorter compared to open lung surgery. If your lungs are in good condition (other than the presence of the cancer) you can usually return to normal activities after some time if a lobe or even an entire lung has been removed.

Treatment of advance lung cancer is palliative. Cure is only possible by miracle, if any. My advice is to the treat the symptoms and let him live a comfortable life ,as much as possible.
